True Hollywood Story: The Making of the Next Kashi Commercial

For those of you who don't know I've been selected to participate in the next Kashi commercial!! It's a group commercial featured around an upcoming trial event in April. We've been busy the past couple of weeks working on pictures that will be on the web at Kashi.com, and then most recently the actual filming of the commercial up in Malibu, CA. I feel really lucky to have gotten the opportunity to participate in something like this and see what kind of behind the scene things it takes to put a commercial together. So to recap:

Last Thursday the crew (8 of us from the Kashi office) went up to Santa Monica. We had our last wardrobing appointment Thursday afternoon. On our way to the RSA Films office my friend and I spotted Jessica Simpson driving in her Range Rover on Melrose Ave. It was a very Hollywood-esq way to start the trip. So anyways we had our wardrobing appointment with the stylists and they chose a white, baby-doll top, blue hoodie, skinny jeans (it took lots of convincing from the stylist to get me to wear them though), and some cute hippie-thong sandals. That night we had cocktails with the directors and some of the crew at the hotel where we were staying (the Casa Del Mar which is right on the Santa Monica boardwalk-Gorgeous!!!). The directors, The Malloy Brothers (Brendan & Emmet) were very cool, young, down to earth guys so it was nice to get to know them prior to the big day.

Friday morning started very early...5:30am we left the hotel and drove about 20 min North up to Malibu / Westward Beach. We pulled into the parking lot and I could not believe how much was already going on. Tractor trailers of gear were being unloaded, smaller trailers with computer equipment, and tons of people everywhere. There must have been over 100 people on set working to make the day go off with out a hitch. After some needed coffee, make-up and wardrobing we started filming as the sun was coming up at about 6:30am. The first scene we did I was driving a car with the camera guy right beside me in the passenger seat (pfft...not intimidating what so ever)....other shots included us setting up tables...carrying chairs, goofing off etc.... The idea is that we're setting up this HUGE table on the beach for this trial event breakfast (which is actually happening in La Jolla on Saturday May 12th if you're going to be in the area). As you can tell from the pictures the location was absolutely AMAZING; pristine beach with a huge cliff in the background. And as if getting to participate in this commercial wasn't cool enough, the highlight of the day for me was probably getting to see tons of marine life. All day long we saw dolphins playing in the surf, seals jumping, and we must have seen half a dozen migrating whales just a few feet off from shore. Truly Amazing!!!

As you can tell, I've posted just a few pictures on the blog. If you want to see the complete documentary of the shoot I posted the pictures to shutterfly: http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0EcNW7JmyasXIQ
I'll keep you guys posted on when the commercial will be on air and on what channels so stay tuned! In the meantime here's the actual video clip:

Culp Valley

So we recently made it out to Culp Valley for the first time. I've been hearing about it and after my buddy Kris showed me around, I figured it was time to take the whole gang out. A gloomy day in San Diego always translates into a sunny and sometimes hot day in the desert. This day happened to be slightly cool, which made for perfect climbing. Although no major breakthroughs were made, fun was definitely had by all...or most...ok, some. Enjoy the pics.

Charleston Girl's Weekend

A few weekends ago I made a quick trip back East for a girls weekend in Charleston SC. With Meg being the first pregasorus of my friends and the fact that I didn't get to visit with everyone over Christmas I really wanted to make it back for the visit with the gals. It was a whirlwind of a weekend which began with taking the redeye to Charlotte on Thursday night. Friday after arriving in Charlotte I got to visit with my aunt and cousin-in-law, Keri and her little one, Leah while I waited for Laurel to pick me up. Once getting to Charleston we had a big time. Lazy breakfast, Low tea at the Charleston Place Hotel, Window shopping downtown, rooftop bars and an absolutely delicious dinner at a tapas restaurant....of course followed by more bottles of wine. Thank goodness Meg was such a trooper and didn't mind fulfilling the role of DD :) Enjoy the pictures.

Same shot but let's tilt or heads this time

When in Charleston by all means drink Palmetto brew

Fun Randomness

I was cleaning off some of the pictures from my camera and thought I'd post a fun random mix of some events from the past month. First off, Miles modeling his brand new, homemade dog bed. Sarah helped with the design and helped refresh my sewing machine skills. A few mimosas later, voila Miles is lounging in style. Did you notice the personalized embellishments! Thanks for your help Sarah as you can tell, Miles loves it.

Miles is thinking...."Man, I look so good on my new bed. Red is such a good color for me"

Is that bone for real?

A few weeks ago I went to the BellyUp a most excellent music venue just a few minutes north in Solana Beach. Sarah and the Monroe Ave String Band were opening up for the Ralph Stanley Band. After a yummy dinner at the Pizza Port a group of us went and cheered for Sarah and listened to some mighty fine Bluegrass. For a second I thought I was magically transported back to NC. The pictures are a little blurry (sorry) I still need to perfect my picturing taking skills in dark lighting.
Mr Ralph Stanley himself! Pick one for us Ralph.

Sarah on fiddle with the rest of Monroe Ave. String Band. Go Sarah!!!

Silliness at ladies nigt. Riley is so lucky!
