Well folks, the long awaited update is here. I've finally posted our pictures from our journey to California. Unfortunately it would be silly to post 150 pictures on our blog as that could get a little overwhelming. So we opted to upload them to shutterfly. So check 'em out. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0Aas2Tlq5ZsWLio
As for the trip...well here goes...I’m going to do this in installments. So check back for new additions to the story.
Installment #1
Day 1
On Friday, Feb 3rd we packed up our stuff, shipped off Karen's car and hit the road ourselves. We made the 2.5 hour drive to Wilkesboro where we got to hang with my parents before the big journey began. It was nice to spend some time with them and get some free food!!
Day 2
Saturday morning we departed around 9 as we were meeting our friends Nick and Jill in Boone for breakfast. Heading up the mountain we ran into some really strange weather...a winter thunderstorm. Don't really think I've ever witnessed thunder and lightning in the middle of winter before. So after breakfast, we continued through the mountains to Tennessee where the rain turned to sleet and then snow somewhere around Knoxville. And then finally, we made it to Nashville. This was my first time hanging out in Nashville so I was pretty excited. Of course my suggestion was that we go honky-tonkin. So after a quick visit at Heather B.'s house, we all packed up and headed downtown for some food, drink and killer live music. It was really amazing the shear number and level of quality of the musicians we got to hear...and it was only about 8 o'clock. My favorite stop was at Robert's. We saw an amazing group of all-star musicians, all of which had played/toured with major acts. We saw and heard the lead guitar player make just about every other guitar player I've ever seen or heard look pretty bad. He was amazing...jazz, country, bluegrass, blues...you name it. The rest of the night was spent at another local watering hole eating greasy food and drinking cheap beer…and of course playing golden tee…and I mean this game went on all night long…absolutely ridiculous.
Day 3
Sunday brought a new day and a new destination. We packed up, said our goodbyes and were on our way to Conway, Arkansas. One of Karen’s college friends just moved to Conway and happened to be right on way…so we planned a stop. This also just happened to be Super Bowl Sunday…for which they were having a Party!! It was a little awkward showing up at a party, not knowing anyone…but then again I am a pretty darn good party crasher. The game itself was less than stunning, but the Grey’s Anatomy that followed…OMG!! Still the best show on Television. Now I have to take a second and explain what you will see in the pictures. There was most definitely a chocolate fountain at the party. I think it was a wedding gift or something. I had never seen anything like it…and apparently neither had anyone else, because it grew a larger crowd than the football game did. So after a dip in the hot tub, we hit the sack as Monday was going to be a long drive…and it turned out to be much longer than we anticipated.
